Joy Editing is proud to partner with Eden Bradley, sex and kink educator and New York Times & USA Today bestselling author of THE DARK GARDEN and THE TRAINING HOUSE series, to offer a variety of BDSM for Authors Services. From evaluations to education, we’re excited to help you bring realism to your representation of the kink community.
WITH ALL SERVICES, WE REQUIRE YOU TO INFORM US, PRIOR TO SUBMISSION OF YOUR WORK, OF ALL KINKS WITHIN YOUR SUBMISSION. We reserve the right to refuse any work that crosses our hard limits.
All BDSM Services are nonrefundable. Fees for many of our BDSM services are calculated on a project-by-project basis, so please feel free to send us an email at admin@joyediting.com for any inquiries.
ConSULTATIOns
For authors looking for something closer to a conversation or a one-on-one workshop. During a consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to present questions to a real-lifer. These questions can cover generic topics like consent, safety, equipment and sensations, the psychological aspects of a kink dynamic, or you can ask about specifics in your story. A consultation can be done via phone or video chat, and this service can be added to any other service.
Evaluations
With an evaluation, you’ll get to submit your kinky scenes for a real-lifer to read through and provide feedback. Your kink evaluator will address how well your scene would work in real life, how well the scene works as fiction, whether or not it adheres to community standards of informed consent, and potential safety issues. Your evaluator can also help you, if necessary, with adding emotional depth to your scene by working with you to better understand a real-lifer’s mindset.
Your evaluation will come with written feedback, email consultations with your evaluator, and Eden’s packet of BDSM information. It does not include any line editing or proofreading and is only for kinky scenes. Your evaluator will not read the whole book unless you also book a Single Read-Through.

Testing
If you’re interested in getting feedback on how well the scene you’ve written works in real life, this is the service for you. With physical testing, your tester will take your scene and try it out—as written. If our arms don’t bend that way, we’ll tell you. If being beaten with a bouquet of pencils isn’t as painful as you think it should be, we’ll let you know. We’ll also make some suggestions on how to reword, reorganize, or redo portions of the scene to make it more successful.
Your physical testing will come with written feedback, email consultations with your evaluator, and Eden’s packet of BDSM information. It will not include any line editing or proofreading, nor will it include pictures or video unless expressly negotiated in advance. Your tester will not read the whole book unless you also book a Single Read-Through.
Information OnlY
If all you need is someone to point you in the right direction, this is it! We can send you Eden’s packet of BDSM information, some instructional/how-to book titles to get you started, and websites and online groups to find more information. If you’re interested in researching a particular topic, let us know so we can tailor your info pack to your needs. This service includes the client’s initial email and two optional follow-up emails.
