1. How do I book an editing date?

If you're interested in booking with Joy Editing, you can send us an email at admin@joyediting.com. We'd love to hear about your book.

FAQ

If you have questions about Joy Editing or our services, we may answer them here. If we don't, send us a message.

2. How far in advance do I need to schedule my edit?

You can schedule as far in advance as you like! Some authors book dates for books they haven't started writing yet, and they often find it motivates them to stay on schedule. Joy Editing usually books up several months in advance, so we recommend you contact us well before your publishing date. However, we do sometimes have cancellations or dates that are still open, so the best way to know if we're available is to send us an email.

8. I'm upset about my edit/proofread/the state of the Middle East.

I'm sorry to hear you're displeased! If you're unhappy about your edit or proofread, please contact Devon to discuss what options are available to help resolve your problems. We can't promise a perfect book, but we never want a client to leave unhappy. If you're upset about the Middle East, we totally understand. We are too. We can't fix that problem, but send us an email, and we'll commiserate.

9. Why should I choose Joy Editing over the other editing companies available?

We bring years of editing experience to the table, and many of our books have ended up on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists. We will strive to make your book the best it can be. If you're interested in working with us, send us an email and request an editing sample. Let our work speak for itself.

7. Are you unwilling to edit any kind of book?

We specialize in romance and erotica, but we're happy to work on any kind of novel or novella. We do not edit children's books, poetry, nonfiction, or translated works.

3. How long does the editing process take?

For most books, line editing takes two weeks, though if your book is very long or very short, you'll be given a different timeline. After line editing is complete, you have as long as you need to go through your editor's comments and accept or reject your editor's changes. After line editing, your proofreader will have one day per 10k words to proofread your book.

4. What if I need my book edited in a rush?

We offer two options on a case-by-case basis for rush work: rushed scheduling and rushed editing:

If you need your book edited before we have availability on the schedule, we may be able to edit your book sooner, but we do charge a fee for such scheduling. We waive that fee for VIP clients.

If you need your book edited in less than two weeks, we will attempt to meet your deadline. We charge a fee for editing a book in less than two weeks, and that fee may be waived or reduced for VIP clients.

5. How do you accept payment?

Joy Editing accepts payments through PayPal. If you are receiving only content editing or proofreading, we require full payment when we begin work on your manuscript. After you send us your book, we'll send you an invoice for the full amount of your work. If you are receiving line editing, we will accept full payment up-front or half up-front and half after the line edit is complete. When you send us your manuscript for line editing, we will send you an invoice for half of your total payment. Upon completion of the line edit, we will send you the edited file and your second invoice. Proofreading will only begin after both invoices have been paid.

6. Do you offer any discounts?

We're pleased to offer a special discount to members of Mensa. Please contact us for more information on that.

We also enjoy offering lightning discounts and discounts on random content. (Past random discounts have included books starring LBGT main characters, books including Atlas Shrugged, books that take place over St. Patrick's Day or Halloween, among others.) The best way to keep updated on these discounts is by following us on Facebook or Instagram and subscribing to our monthly newsletter.
