January Newsletter - Vol. 54

“May the odds be ever in your favor.”

- Suzanne Collins

Dear Tributes

Happy January! Welcome to Year 3 of the Covid Games. Representing District 1 are a very tired editor and company manager. Representing Districts 2-12 are very tired authors. We’re all trying to figure out if we’re getting through this pandemic or simply adjusting to life within it. If you know the answer, please send us an email and let us know.

We know our districts are worn out. The battle is still raging and our fight-or-flight mechanisms have been engaged, globally, for way too long. We can’t claim to know the key to turning the page (though our vote is for universal kitten distribution), but we will claim this:

Fiction is a wonderful form of escapism, and as a collective whole, we need that. We need YOU. Every word you struggle over, every scene that breaks your heart, we need it. What you do matters. All those days sitting at your computer alone, wondering if writing this book is worth feeding your kids pizza again, or if you have something worth saying, or if anyone cares… We want you to know your drive to write is real and valid and it matters.

Our Joy Editing team is still here and still excited to work on your books. They pull us away from the Covid Games and remind us that your beautiful worlds welcome us too.

How about we start the year with a special sale? If you contact us within the next 30 days to book an edit and you tell us we matter too, we’ll give you a 10% discount. Until next month, take care of yourselves and each other.
